OUR NEXT SHOW
"THE ARGYLE REMEMBERED" 30th June" - 2nd July 2022 - Tickets now on sale !!
Built in 1868, The Argyle Theatre in Birkenhead, Wirral was one of the smallest and oldest music halls in Britain. It was owned and directed by three generations of the Clarke family. It was famous for its policy of fostering new talent and pioneering new entertainment. Many famous stars made their earliest successes here, notably Harry Lauder, Vesta Tilley, Dave Leno, George Robey, Charlie Chaplin, George Formby, Flanagan and Allen and every British vaudeville star you can think of. It was the first music hall in Britain to broadcast introducing many of today's stars and was the only Music Hall to broadcast direct to the U.S.A on a coast to coast hook up. Sadly, the argyle was destroyed by fire during a fierce air-raid on 26th September 1940 during the Battle of Britain. The shell of the building remained until 1973 when it was demolished.
Our show tells the story in song and dance of Birkenhead's famous Argyle Theatre and our show features many music hall stars of the day including Marie Lloyd, Harry Lauder, Nellie Wallace and Will Fyfe.
