Heswall on Broadway. Heswall Musical Society with the Heswall Concert Band.
To paraphrase the song title “what a difference a year made”. It is great to see that after being in the doldrums for some time Heswall Musical Society are once more on the “Comeback trail” Producer/Director Philip Lyne together with Musical Director Greg Williams and Choreographer Francis Anyon presented us with a fine evenings entertainment augmented by the Heswall Concert Band under the direction of Becky Thomas. I enjoyed last years show and its success manifested itself in the larger cast on view this time. Success will encourage new talent to join and I expect next year will see a new crop of members on hand to enhance what is fast becoming a group to be part of. The singing was fine both in ensemble and by individuals. I am not picking out individuals by name; this was team effort and all played their part. Songs from various musical shows can be a tricky path to walk along. Which songs shall we choose? The ones the audience will know as opposed to others which they are not so familiar? Do we want them to join in ? Should numbers be included that may not be meaningful outside of their context in the full show?: This show featured a largely eclectic mix with some of the older musicals vying with the newer if not the latest in Musical theatre. The pace of some of the songs was in a few instances a little slow and songs such as “Easy street” from “Annie” and Stars “Les Miserables” are not the best known from their source although both were well done in themselves. I also thought “Thank Heavan for little girls” might have been better with just a single male surrounded by the ladies. However these are small points in what was overall a good choice of songs and which from the audience’s reaction were throughly enjoyed. The finale was excellent and Heswall Musical Society climbed every Mountain in their bid to show people they have all the qualities needed for future success. Best wishes and WELL DONE TO YOU ALL. Budge. We are taking part in Magic of The Musicals with Flat Pack Music on Sunday 7th October tickets are £10. It takes place at Birkenhead Town Hall.
